SHAPEs are regional events by Shapers for Shapers. This year, the winning proposal from the Europe & Eurasia region was the Bilbao hub, so from 3 to 5 November 2023, Bilbao hosted more than 250 young shapers from all over the world for the most important gathering event of the Global Shapers Community.
Our theme "Harreman: uniting community and territory" aims to develop vision and action for young people to lead a positive impact on communities near and far. We see the symbol of infinity as our guide: what we generate through our projects will be returned in the learning and inspiration we receive.
Who attended?

We were looking for inspiring shaper projects, the ones that made the hub proud, the ones that had made an impact and made a difference in their communities. At SHAPE we created a space for all participants to meet, learn, ask questions and interact with TOP projects. The experience has been brilliant and 87% of the attendees have identified projects to take forward within their own hubs.
In addition, we had the opportunity to exhibit 12 international and Bilbao projects in Metro Bilbao for four weeks. Our committee of young people chose the ones that had generated the greatest impact so that all metro passengers could get to know them.
We have used the social media Instagram, LinkedIn and TopLink as main communication channels.
What's more, on Instagram we have created a specific profile to upload all the content prior to the SHAPE called @ShapeBilbao created in March 2023, with the official announcement of the host.
On the new profile 348 people have followed the account, a 19.54% engagement rate (calculated by likes, comments and interactions).
In parallel, we have continued to use our main profile (@globalshapersbilbao) with 1,706 followers (+247 since March 2023) with an engagement rate of 4.75%.
We have also taken advantage of the Road to SHAPE events to be able to reach out to the community, to our audience and to keep creating content while we were organising SHAPE. It has also been a tool to keep engagement in the hub so that some people could connect more with the objective we were working towards.
We have launched a newsletter through which we have been communicating all the updates to our local network and which has grown thanks to the interest generated by the Road to SHAPEs and SHAPE itself. We obtained 489 contacts from young people from the territory, organisations and institutions. The average opening rate of the emails sent was 48.3% and the click rate was close to 6%.
Thanks to the collaboration we have achieved with Metro Bilbaowe have been able to develop a major communication campaign throughout the Metro network. We have appeared in the mezzanines of Abando and Moyua, two of the busiest stations.
Also on the digital screens in all the stations, as well as in the ticket vending machines. Finally, we have exhibited at Abando station some projects by international shapers and the Bilbao hub.
In total, this Metro campaign has had an impact on more than 1,500,000 travellers.
We have also designed and created communication material for the event itself, including a photocall, a lectern, roll ups, presentation templates for workshops and plenary sessions, opening and closing presentations, a physical hub logo and a welcome pack with merchandising.
At Global Shapers Bilbao we want that the community of Bizkaia to participate in our journey. That is why we have planned a series of initiatives to involve the local community, organising 1 event for each theme called Road to SHAPE.
The 6 impact areas of the Global Shapers network will be worked on: inclusive communities, skills training, health and wellbeing, basic needs, protection of the planet, community building. There will be events in different formats where se these issues will be worked on from a local perspective with the help of different stakeholders in the territory.
We will also developed a survey to measure the situation of society in the territory on each topic, and to compare local results with international ones.

On the SHAPE Europe and Eurasia Toplink page Toplink page you will find the link to pre-register.
The Bilbao Hub will evaluate all applications and ultimately select participants to maximise the total number of hubs represented (as is usual for all Global Shapers Community events). We will also take into account the accessibility needs of participants and plan accordingly.
Participants will be responsible for their individual travel expenses, including flights and hotel accommodation.
Accommodation: As you all know, by registering for Shape you are only submitting an application which will then be filtered by the host team to ensure the diversity of the participants. Please do not book anything before receiving confirmation of participation. The host team is not liable for any loss of accommodation or airline ticket bookings before the confirmation of participation. With the confirmation of participation the Shape team will send you an accommodation suggestion guide with a wide range of price options for your stay in Bilbao. Please note that accommodation must be booked by participants.
Participants who are unable to cover the fee can apply for a grant by completing the pre-registration survey. Please note that grants are limited and will be decided on a case-by-case basis to support our diversity and inclusion criteria. You will be asked to cover your travel expenses.
It is recommended that all Trainers take out travel/health insurance to cover travel and event days.
The Bilbao Hub is at your disposal to answer any questions or doubts about SHAPE Europe and Eurasia 2023, through the SHAPE Europe and Eurasia Toplink page.
Yes, as the number of SHAPE attendees is limited, we think it is appropriate that the representation of Shapers per hub is limited. You can pre-register as many Shapers as you consider, however, we recommend that you decide internally who will present themselves based on what they could bring and what they could bring to SHAPE. The Global Shapers Bilbao team will be in charge of making the selection based on the data provided in each registration.
